User note, for a more thorough removal of programs use Revo Uninstaller, the uninstall function of most programs and Windows leaves many residuals. Start with Disk Cleanup and don’t forget to use the More Options tabs which give access to removal of programs, Windows components, System Restore files and Shadow Copies. Step 2, clean/remove junk files and unused programs. Using it once or twice a month should be enough. User note, run the program as administrator – right-click and select run as administrator instead of left-click – to give the immunize function full access to the system. Step 1.1, use a program like Spybot – Search & Destroy to clean out the crud which the antivirus missed and also immunize the system to prevent future contamination. The more Internet surfing and email attachments you open, the more often. And by use one I mean keep it updated and run a scan often. Free programs like AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, avast! Free Antivirus or Microsoft Security Essentials should suffice just fine.
I am a firm believer that you get what you paid for so you will probably get better protection and support from a paid one like Norton AntiVirus 2012 or McAfee AntiVirus Plus. Regardless if it is free or not, use one. Step 1, use a decent and often updated antivirus program.
